Experteze Research Program
Our mission is to help train underprivileged (minority and women) students, foster collaborations between students
in developing and developed countries, engage them to pursue careers in STEMM research and development (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine), and create a workforce experienced in STEMM areas to
meet the needs of the society and industry.
Disciplines such as Bioinformatics and computational biology are emerging as critical fields of innovation, providing techniques to solve major challenges in lifesciences and healthcare.
However, there is a growing shortage of trained researchers in these subjects, which threatens our ability as a society to apply the science to find new cures and solutions.
In addition, there is a growing disparity as students from developing worlds are falling behind in these crucial skills as they don't have proper introduction and resources to train in these fields.
Thus, we are losing a significant population of students globally who could be contributors to scientific research if only we engaged them and provided them the opportunity, while the industry is facing critical manpower shortage for getting quality research work done.
Without qualified researchers in future, we will not be able to find solutions for the critical healthcare and lifesciences problems we face today.
We are a non profit 501(c)(3) organization, seeking to accomplish this mission by creating a partnership between universities, private companies and students,
such that each group contributes to the overall solution to the problem.
Experteze Responsible AI Program
Advances in Artificial Intelligence and machine learning has fundamentally altered the way we address problems in
almost all areas of life, including biosciences, manufacturing, energy, transportation, finance and education.
It has evolved to the point that computers and algorithms have become an indespensable
part of our problem solving paradigm.
While AI focus has gained significantly in recent days, it is also true that
there is a general lack of understanding of the true scope and limitations of the AI as currently practiced.
Like every technology before it, AI has the potential for misuse and misapplication, perhaps on a larger scale because
of its power to make decisions about people.
For example, applications such as facial recognition has inadvertantly crossed the line to become intrusive and severely
impact people's freedom and privacy, and have given authoritarian regimes more power to oppress people.
Much like the previous technologies before it, AI has the potential by a few to control the lives of the many.
Biologists have shown how we can, as a society,
manage these disruptive technologies (such as recombinant dna) for common good.
We need to learn from these experiences and make sure AI is used properly in the world.
Given the overarching role of AI in decision making process and the risks associated with the blind application of AI on
the lives and well being of the people, it is evident we need a better way to manage how AI is used in real life.
Given the growing impact and importance of AI in all areas, and the need for qualified researchers to practice Responsible AI,
Experteze is extending the scope of our effort to launch Experteze AI as a separate program in our initiative.
Experteze Responsible AI will complement and enhance the activities of our partner universities to develop and offer unique programs that
will engage the students to participate and influence the course of AI technology and its evolution.
Our mission in Experteze Responsible AI is
to help the young generation understand and influence how AI technology is developing and the directions it should evolve. We will be
focusing on areas of AI that is not usually addressed in the classes - such as ethics and inclusivity, and promote
the practice of Responsible AI. Our goal is give the young generation the ability and a voice to define the shape of the world
they want to inherit.
Experteze Circles of Excellence
Experteze Circles of Excellence is a global network of students passionate about a specific topic of interest in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, medicine and mathematics) and the social sciences. Oftentimes a student, particularly in developing countries, interested in a deep dive into these topics does not have opportunities to interact with others who have similar interests. Due to this limitation, a student is unable to maintain interest in and enthusiasm for the topic and eventually gets distracted by other pursuits. How often have we seen a situation where a young person showing exceptional interest at one time ceases to cultivate their passion? The challenge is how to maintain and grow such exceptional interests in an environment of limited resources, and the Circles of Excellence program is our proposed solution to this challenge.
Our mission at Circles of Excellence is to create a nurturing online social environment for students and professionals passionate about various common areas of interest, and to provide enabling resources that will help them sustain and grow interest in those subjects. We create networking opportunities through which members can collaborate with each other on scholarly pursuits and build lasting professional relationships. They can share ideas and resources, help each other; organize events of mutual interest, and build camaraderie within the group. In an Experteze Circle of Excellence, you will always have an understanding friend who speaks 'your language'.
To ensure quality interactions within the groups, Experteze Circles of Excellence is an invitation only community. Invitations are extended to those recommended by the faculty in participating colleges and universities or current members of the group. Please contact us if your group or university is interested in joining the Circles of Excellence program at Experteze.
Experteze Incubator
Curiosity and creativity are inherent characteristics of young people, and entrepreneurship and innovative spirit are natural expressions of such creativity. It is no wonder that many students opt for pursuing such endeavors. However, such a path is inherently risk prone, and we need to train and coach students to develop the right attitude in order to be successful in their ventures. Traditional entrepreneurship programs focus only on a specific set of skills but do not contribute to the real development of the students.
The mission of Experteze incubator is to create an enabling environment wherein participating students not only learn the traditional and tangible skills that are needed to be successful as an entrepreneur, but also cultivate critical habits and attitudes that will help them in the long run towards their success in their entrepreneurship career. Students in our programs will develop the spirit of collaborative contribution and respect for each other.
Experteze provides access to ideas, technology and seed financing to the participating teams. We also support the teams with access to needed facilities, team building support, mentoring and coaching and other professional services as needed. Experteze incubator program is available to the students in participating colleges and universities. We also welcome others who are passionate about entrepreneurship to join us and help the students as mentors and coaches. Please contact us if you are interested in supporting the program.
Experteze Institute
Experteze institute is an effort to fix the problems in the way education is currently provided to younger generations. The original focus of education was to help students obtain knowledge to improve their understanding about themselves and the world, and to contribute to the betterment of self and society. Subsequently, the focus changed to learning skills individuals can use to improve themselves economically (e.g. get a job) and create a prosperous society. Technological and scientific advances are moving at a break-neck pace, and the cost of education has risen to such an extent to make quality education out of reach of many students. Obtaining a degree from an institution is no longer a guarantee for getting a good job. Thus, current trends in education have failed to meet its original objectives, and all we have left is a system that creates generations of functional illiterates who can ill-afford the cost of such 'education'.
Our mission of Experteze Institute is to create an alternate way of sharing education and training to the younger generation, one by which the inherent excitement of learning is preserved without cluttering it with extraneous aspects. We make the learning process affordable and democratic in a meaningful way. Our goal is to demonstrate that it is possible to let students choose a path of learning that meets their specific circumstances and yet accomplishes the original objectives of education. It is an experiment to show how the current educational systems can be modified and made better.
We are in the process of working with our participating colleges and universities to develop the contours of the program. Please stay tuned for more details in future.
Experteze Internship and Independent Projects Program
Experteze Internship and Independent Projects program is designed to provide opportunities for young scholars to build their expertise in a subject by working on individualized projects and mentored by specialists in that topic. It is an integral part of our Experteze Circles of Excellence and Experteze Institute programs.
Our mission of Experteze Internship is to help young scholars to engage in a meaningful research activity on a selected topic and demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research. Unlike a formal PhD program, the flexible structure does not have organizational overhead or restrictions. The scholar will select a topic of interest to them, work with a mentor and prepare a report on their research. The results will be published in open literature such as arXiv and thus can be used to demonstrate the scholar's mastery in the subject.
Experteze Internship will be a viable way to gain experience in a subject matter and could lead to new career opportunities. While the scholar is expected to contribute significant time and effort during the project implementation stage, Experteze can help make match with suitable mentors, help in the project planning stages and facilitate the interactions. The projects may be either on an individual or a group based. Please contact us for more details about Experteze Internship program.
